Quality of Life Index: End of Offseason Entering Pre-season 2011

Apparently most of our off season transfers got snowed in and couldn't make it...

So the last time we brought you the Quality Of Life Index it was somewhere around the halfway point of the offseason, with pre-season having started we look at what's gone on since the last QoL post.

Still Waiting For The "Right Player"

Well so much for us bringing in a Designated Player during the offseason...

"At the ownership level, we've talked about it,'' said Bilello. "This team hasn't performed the way we wanted it this year, and in talking to ownership, their priority is not only getting better but they want to get better quickly. In talking about it, it was very clear they understand that there might be things that might take some time to do, and they wanted to think of ways that we could get better very quickly.  So frankly, what we decided on is we are going to be looking bring in a Designated Player this off season.''

This one speaks for itself, we were told they would be looking to bring a DP during the offseason in October, it is now almost February They had about 100 days to make good on this since the last game of the season. Who knows what they were doing or how long they were working on it behind the scenes but it hasn't happened and hasn't sounded like we were ever remotely close to having it happen. MINUS 100

Revolution Sign Re-Entry Draft Pick Ryan Cochrane

The Revolution picked up the 27 year old central defender in the re-entry draft and signed him at a reduced rate contract.  Cochrane comes from the Houston Dynamo and has spent time in San Jose as well.  Cochrane is an MLS vet with some cup wins but recently has suffered from injuries in both 2009 and 2010. EVEN

Revolution Re-Sign Matt Reis

We all dream of a team of Matt Reis...

Good move, despite coming off of some injuries Reis still started to show some why we all dream of a team of him towards the end of the season.  He probably came back a couple of weeks too soon but Preston Burpo's leg bending in the wrong direction will do that. “I’m excited to extend my career in New England,” Reis said. “Everything has been great during my time with the team. I’m looking forward to having a healthy 2011 and challenging for an MLS Cup for our deserving fans in New England.” PLUS 11 (And a head coach)

Bobby Shuttleworth Moved to Senior Squad, Tierney and Sinovic Re-Signs

Twenty-three year old Shuttleworth, signed with the Revs in 2009 as the third string keeper.  In 2010 he got 6 starts between filling in for the injured Preston Burpo and while giving Matt Reis some rest. Shuttleworth looks to be a promising young goalkeeper and we're happy to have him. Jack of all trades and local boy Chris Tierney is staying after having joined the team as a draft pick in 2008.  Left back Sinovic was drafted in 2010 and made 20 starts last season. PLUS 5

Didier Domi Joins the Revs

The first of many seriously needed steps for the Revolution. We are cautiously optimistic over the signing of 32 year old, French LB, Didier Domi. Domi who was out of contract at Olympiacos in Greece has an impressive resume including Paris Saint-Germain, Newcastle, Leeds United and Espanyol.  He comes the Revs with UEFA Champions League and Europa Cup experience as well. Domi's experience should help to shore up the Revs backline and fill one of the many holes in the Revolution roster.  However the Revolution still need to make some major moves for attacking players.  His age is of some worry as we have had bad experience (Jankauskus) with aging European players.  We hope that he'll be able to keep up during the summer heat and playing on Field Turf.  Domi only played 60 games in four years with Olympiacos so one must worry about why that is, whether it be health, form or if he was just out of favor. PLUS 10

Revs and MLS do the Draft Thing...

I don't get the draft... I really don't... I mean I do... I just don't care... Revolution pick 5 players. People seem to like central defender AJ Soares, but all Draft Picks are complete unknowns at the pro level and still need to prove themselves... I'll be generous (I mean they are going through the motions that every other team go through...) PLUS 5

Revolution Announce That They Might Sign 2 Internationals

Ya that's about all we know... It came out on a tweet from COO Brian Bilello and there is a article on the Revolution site about it but that's about all we know.  EVEN

Revolution Fail to Make Needed Offseason Improvements

Ok ok... they told us there are 2 signings coming soon... but they've told us lots of things that haven't happened... like signing a DP during the offseason.  If and when those 2 signings come they will be included in a Pre-Season QoL post.  Getting down to business now... we need a striker and an attacking mid... this is the third season we've needed a striker.  We loved Twellman and wanted him back and needed him back desperately  but after his retirement we knew for sure he wasn't coming back.  Funny, they know we need  a striker and they haven't made it happen in the offseason despite huge cap space and roster space.  Ralston was also a huge loss and we need another strong midfielder to pair up with Shalrie.  Interestingly Shalrie did not show up to the first day of camp today and Nicol candidly said he has no idea why, we're definitely going to be paying attention to this but it is for another post.  MINUS (20+14)=34

Another unexciting offseason in whatt was supposed to be a very exciting offseason for the Revolution...
OVERALL: MINUS 103
LAST QoL: MINUS 87-99

  1. Shocked, truly. No really. I tried to believe them this time. No pressure to succeed, no pressure to get any attention, hit the snooze button again...

  2. I'm willing to give them til the first game before I call offseason/preseason a complete disappointment, however the offseason definitely did not live up to expectations and promises.
