So from Fank Dell'Apa's article in the Globe this week we learned that the New England Revolution are actively pursuing a European player who is among his countries top goalscorers. Today we learned from a Kyle McCarthy Tweet that Steve Nicol and Mike Burns have been in Europe scouting this week. Using this information we have compiled a list of realistic and not so realistic potential transfer targets, all teams had midweek games:
David Villa-Barcelona
David Trezeguet-Hercules
Alessandro Del Piero-Juventus
Zlatan Ibrahimović-AC Milan
Alexei Eremenko-Kilmarnock
Cristiano Ronaldo-Real Madrid
Milan Baros-Galatasaray
Dejan Stanković-Inter Milan
Andriy Shevchenko-Dynamo Kiev
Artem Milevskiy-Dynamo Kiev
Roman Pavlyuchenko-Tottenham
Niko Kranjčar-Tottenham
Edin Džeko-Manchester City
Mirko Vučinić-Roma
Goran Pandev-Inter Milan
Ilčo Naumoski-SV Mattersburg
Alexander Frei-FC Basel
|
Alexander Frei |
Ok and now we have what we think is the most likely list of targets. We feel comfortable with these names and will be keeping our eye on them. Some are still on the unrealistic and/or pricey side, some have contracts ending, some are cheap and some are old. We'll let you decide:
David Trezeguet-Hercules
Alexei Eremenko-Kilmarnock
Milan Baros-Galatasaray
Dejan Stanković-Inter Milan
Andriy Shevchenko-Dynamo Kiev
Artem Milevskiy-Dynamo Kiev
Niko Kranjčar-Tottenham
Alexander Frei-FC Basel
What do you think??
Kranjčar would be tremendous, but I see him going to Italy or Germany to find playing time before retiring to MLS.
ReplyDeleteHerculez is on the verge of relegation so I'm sure Trezeguet will want out, but probably for anywhere else in La Liga.
Stank and Shevkenko are probably too expensive and old, respectively.
Frei's a former teammate of Perovic, right? could be a good reunion/matchup? Seems the most likely in terms of similar league qualities, too.
I don't really know much about the others, but I'd value younger and more durable over old, injury prone and on the wane at this point, considering how the Revs over-30's are faring on the injury front, and we do play on a tough plastic pitch. We don't need another Jankauskas.
Trezeguet has been linked to MLS before, and I wouldnt be surprised if he's a target. His stock seems to have fallen since his Juve days, and unless he ends up back in France, I could see him wanting one last decent payday, in which MLS could offer. he's the same age as Henry, and if he stays fit and interested, I could see him putting in a solid 2 years or so here. It's unfair to place all of the scoring burden on Lekic, and Trezeguet would add a lot of relief to that, in theory at least.
ReplyDeleteStankovic gives us that creative option that Nicol now wants more of, and allows us to go back to a 4-4-2. A midfield of him, Benny, Shalrie, and Perovic immediately becomes the best in the league.
A player who intigues me the most, though, is Scottish attacker James McFadden of Birmingham, who I believe will be out of contract. He can play up front and in the midfield, is right sided, and would cover both of our needs in one fell swoop - he can be creative, and score a few. Signing someone like him would strengthen our our 4-3-3, where he'd step in immediately on the right side. A front 3 of him, Perovic on the left, and Lekic is very attractive. But he's still young enough to stay in in the UK, whether it be a lower EPL club or a Championship side, for a few more years.
I'll ramble on more about this after a few brews at the Red Fox on saturday.
It's going to be Robbie Keane. West Ham don't want to keep him, neither does Tottenham. Hes a top scorer for Ireland that has a large population in the Boston area. He's available, cheap, and can still play. Perfect for the Revolution.
