Holy shit they actually signed a DP, hell has frozen over and pigs are flying. The Revolution have officially announced the signing of 22-year-old Argentinian forward Milton Caraglio. Milton Caraglio comes to the Revs from Argentinian club Rosario Central.
He has suffered a knee injury on the past that sidelined him for a good portion of 2009. The injury caused him to miss a National Team call up by Maradona and possibly a chance at Argentina's World Cup squad. Caraligo had a trial at West Ham in 2010 where he played 64mins in a pre-season friendly against MK Dons. Caraglio failed to pass West Ham's stringent medical tests and ended up returning to Argentina.
So good things first...
Caraglio is young and a striker... this is the way the team has needed to go for quite a while and it's about damn time they did. Second... he's actually a DP... I mean seriously... we signed a DP! Third, I may be biased (being a Hammers fan myself), but the fact West Ham was taking a look at him excites me given their penchant for developing young talent. west Ham were reportedly willing to offer 5 million pounds (8.1 million USD) for the striker.
And now for some questions...
-Ok he's a striker but from 2007-2011 he made only 49 appearances with 11 goals, an average of 0.22gpg.
-Since his trial at West Ham it looks like he has only made 2 appearances.
-Does he like FieldTurf? More importantly does his knee like FieldTurf?
We are happy that we signed a young, attacking DP for sure, as it is certainly a step in the right direction but history tells us to be cautious with all Revs signings, so we will. We need to see him play and see what he's got before giving a thumbs up or down, obviously we wish Caraglio the best and hope to see him be wildly successful. Welcome to New England Milton.
Caraglio is expected to join the team on August 4th and be available for selection once his transfer certificate arrives... oh and if he can regularly score goals like this we'll really be happy...
Of course, if he scores often, we'll all be smiling and cheering with praise.
ReplyDeleteBut we didn't even scout this kid. As quoted by Mike "Moron" Burns, he and Nicol based this signing on "video evidence" and "recommendations". Are you F-ing kidding me??
I could be wrong, but it looks like he hasn't really played since his WHU trial vs MK Dons - it's been a full year since. Sound familiar? (cough-DABO-cough) This is our long sought-after DP signing?
This reeks of a desperation signing if you ask me. I would absolutely love to eat crow on this, though. Age is on the kid's side, yes, and if he is actually fit, he couldn't be any worse than what we have up front already (could he?). But to throw DP money at a "loan" move (he's apparently out of contract with RC, which means the majority of the money goes to his Kia- Joorabchian-like "agents") for a kid who already has busted knees and hasn't really played in a year just screams "major risk".
I really want this kid to work out for us like Montero has with Seattle, or like Saborio has with RSL, but if he doesn't, this absolutely must be the final straw for Nicol/Burns.
