More in conference means more/better away options |
What does this mean for the Revs? We'll play 7 of the Eastern Conference teams 3 times, and 2 others twice,so we are at least getting a home and away for all our in conference rivals.
As for western conference teams we will play them all at least once, whichever team we don't play at home this year we will play at home next year.
There are a lot of people complaining that this isn't what they d in Europe blah bah blah... Well this isn't Europe, it's 'merica. We have such a ridiculous amount of travel that the teams need to do, up to 50k miles, that it just make sense to go back to east and west. Western teams are generally better but they also did better traveling east versus teams traveling west this season. Reduced travel is certainly better for the players and should provide better performances.
The biggest reason we are excited about the schedule change is for the ability to further develop and bring back some of the east coast rivalries. I think the best way to develop fans into supporters (yes there is a difference) is getting them to do an away trip. My first away trip was down to New York and it is certainly what solidified my support of the Revs and is a great way to get to know your fellow supporters. One away trip and you are hooked... the fact that we will be playing our regional rivals more often means that more road trips are available. I can't really describe the road trip experience accurately, If you've been on one you know, if you haven't... well you'll have plenty of opportunities. Hopefully the Northeast teams travel more this year and give the Northwest a run for their money. We have rivalries here that have been ignored, this schedule gives us a chance to bring them back to their former glory.
