So why is it the "SUPERDRAFT" and not just the draft? What's so super about it? And why do people insist on it's importance? It's not that important anymore folks... It's great for depth and that's about it... of course there are few great picks every year but it can be a crap shoot, we see highly ranked players flounder and diamonds in the rough come from the bottom... Ok rant over...
Despite my feelings of the draft it appears that Heaps & Co. did pretty well for themselves by selecting Kelyn Rowe and Tyler Polak.
Keyln Rowe-UCLA
- 20 year-old Midfielder
- Pac-12 Player of the Year
- 6 goals and 10 assists in 2011
- 6 caps in the US U-20 Team
- Currently in the U-23 Olympic National Team Camp
Tyler Polak-Creighton University
- 19 year old Left Back
- Twice NSCAA All-Midwest Honoree
- Started every game at Creighton (44)
- Led NCAA in shutout percentage
- Scored 3 goals and 6 assists in his college career
- In the US National Pool since U-14
- Played every minute of qualifying and tournament matches in the 2009 U-17 World Cup
They seem to be a little small but they are both USMNT prospects and have had very successful youth and college careers. I don't expect them to be starters on day 1 but I would expect to see quite a bit of both of them this season. These selections may break the trend of us having our draftees mostly keeping the bench warm and not making it more than a season or 2. I bet we'll be seeing a lot of them in the future, but let's not label them the saviors of this club yet.
UPDATE 11:59pm: Ok not an update but more of an oh ya... both players are under Generation Adidas contracts... which means we they won't count against the salary cap... pretty awesome... if the Revs actually spend the money.
Starting 11?
