On November 8th, The Midnight Rider will be hosting a FIFA 12 video game tournament to benefit Think Taylor, founded by former Revoluton star Taylor Twellman. In TDIF's first ever interview we spoke with Twellman about the event.
TDIF: So tell us about Think Taylor, for those who don't know much about your organization.
TT: In 2008 I suffered a concussion and after that dealt with Post Concussion Syndrome (still am) and there was nothing to help guide me in the right direction. Well I want to be the resource for players, parents, coaches, trainers to find the right people to help advise them and get them healthy quickly. "If you have a broken foot, you don't see an eye doctor".
TDIF: How are you doing in your recovery up to this point? We heard you speaking about having dreams for the first time in many years, are they still happening?
TT: I haven't worked out in 19 months and more importantly it has allowed my brain to start healing. Dreams are every night now for the 1st time in a long time and hopefully they will continue. I still have the headache and trouble with minor things but I am attacking the problem and want to be the face of BEATING concussions.
TDIF: How do you think professional sports and specifically the MLS are handling concussion related injuries currently? What are they doing right and what would you like to see more of?
TT: MLS has definitely improved due to the committee we have set up to review all situations but is it perfect? No. The NFL still is having problems with honesty of players [and] trainers with head injuries and until people take it serious enough the right change won't happen.
TDIF: This is not the first time the Midnight Riders have worked with you on fundraising, namely the awesome scarfs that they made last winter, are you working with any other groups in or out of the soccer world?
TT: Right now we are working with US Soccer [and] MLS in providing the right materials for the kids of all ages to have. Midnight Riders have always been good to me and they came to me with the idea of having a FIFA tourney so I said I would come by. Scarves are sick right?? Love them!
TDIF: Ok, so how much of a gamer are you? Are you going to own some Revs fans with your sweet FIFA skills?
TT: [I] haven't played video games in long time due to concussions so I am sure I will get owned in FIFA but actually can't wait to be humbled.
TDIF: Finally in light of this weeks news of the Revolution and Steve Nicol parting ways I can't let you go without asking your feelings on that. What would you say the team should focus on going into this off-season and preparing for 2012?
TT: It was one helluva run for Stevie and sad day as an era is over but the Revs have an opportunity right now to take this club in the right direction, lets hope they do.
We'd like to thank Taylor for taking the time to speak with us, for more information you can visit thinktaylor.org or follow on Twitter @ThinkTaylorORG
