I know, I know, I shouldn't be so negative... I'm sorr.... wait no actually I'm not. In the interest of attempting to be fair let's look at this somewhat optimistically. First off Brian Bilello no longer has 18 jobs within the Kraft organization, his sole focus will now be on the team... imagine that... a team president that isn't ding it as a part time job. Sunil Gulati is no longer team president... I mean seriously what the hell did he do? I kind of think that running USSF and being a professor may have distracted him from the Revs if he even did anything for them at all. However if Gulati had a larger role in the day to day operations of this team than any of us previously thought, then maybe having him gone and Bilello now in charge is a good thing. Bilello might actually be able to do something now that he has full control, but only if the support and resources are made available. Now onto Burns... we actually know exactly what his job is, and that's about as much optimism as I can muster.
Back to the negativty ...
HOLY FUCKING SHIT ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME KRAFTS?! ARE YOU THAT FUCKING OUT OF TOUCH OR ARE YOU JUST AMAZINGLY STUPID FOR BILLIONAIRES? DO YOU EVEN REALIZE WHAT YOU'RE DOING? DO YOU HAVE A FUCKING CLUE AT ALL? I THINK THOSE LEFT OF THE SUPPORTERS WOULD LIKE THE FORT MOVED TO THE THIRD LEVEL... SO WE CAN FUCKING JUMP OFF AND END THIS LUNACY.
Please don't let the dog and pony show fool you, the same people who have overseen the decline of this team over the past 3-4 years just got new jobs, better jobs in fact with the same organization. People who alienate the supporters, people who do not seem to know what they are doing, people who look like condescending pricks in interviews and when dealing with fans. This your New England Revolution folks. More of the same... nothing has really changed all that much other than people have had titles changed and been given more responsibility (read: opportunities to fuck it up that much worse).
The majority of fans that I haven spoken to were more concerned about Burns than Nicol. Burns was the person people wanted fired more... and this is what we get. The team is now scapegoating Nicol... Nicol was stale here for sure but he was not the sole problem or even root of the problems here. This is like putting a band-aid on a massive hemorrhage and then giving the person a shit ton of coke... (if you don't get that just think about blood shooting everywhere).
The fan reaction to this news says it all... no one is happy about this. I've been looking for people that see this as a positive and I am yet to find any. The reaction on the team's Facebook page says it all:
"Billelo and Burns are way too conservative, the team has become dull and boring under their leadership. Not encouraging news at all."
"How do people get promoted for having a pathetic season, does this mean it was all the coaches fault? Now please tell me why I should renew my season tickets? I am truly not happy with this move."
"I'm done. Decisions such as this are a clear indication of significant dysfunction within the organization."
"I'm done. No more. Can't support this (dis)organization. I don't go to games, and I tell everyone I know who has a slight interest to never go to Revolution games, waste of money and waste of time. Disgrace. The beautiful game is not found here."
"Frankly, I'd rather see them both canned - only with the Revolution could you miss the playoffs two years in a row, consistently have one of the lowest attendances in the league, limited and largely unsuccessful advertising and marketing, draw zero media attention except when Beckham comes to town, turn on your own supporters and then get a promotion out of all of it. It really does defy belief."
Sadly, these words will probably not make it to Krafty Bob and Jon. I highly doubt the Krafts are regularly checking the Facebook to see what fans are saying... and the two that just got promotions probably aren't going to go tell their boss that the consumers that buy their product are furious with this move.
Gentleman, I wish you the best of luck but you need to prove that we are wrong about you. You now face a revolution... a revolution of your fans how just may decide to leave you. You are facing a great deal of animosity from your fan base and tensions are high. I hope you do not feel comfortable with your new positions because if you do you already aren't doing your job right. I've said it before and I'm going to say it again...
Prove us wrong.
