Today the New England Revolution announced that they would not exercise the contract options on Serbians Ilija Stolica and Marko Perovic. This comes as a surprise regarding Marko Perovic who was considered a fan favorite and one of the stars of the team. Perovic was placed on the season ending injury list after having knee surgery a few weeks ago. Stolica was loaned to FC New York where he has not seen any playing time.
Stolica we get but Perovic is a little harder to understand. IS this to clear room for a DP? Is Perovic's injury worse than previously reported? This move raises a lot of questions for sure, we'll keep an eye on how this all pans out.
Update: According to Kyle McCarthy Perovic asked for his option not to be picked up.
Perovic is a head scratcher. Unless it's purely a short term unscrew this year move with cap room. Sad nonetheless.
