Well ladies and gentleman, we decided to forgo the Motorhead concert tonight to cover the Revs supporters "Meet The Coach" event (actually I couldn't afford the Motorhead show....). Steve Nicol met with members of the Midnight Riders, The Rebellion and this lone member of the Rev Army to answer their questions at the Phoenix Landing in Cambridge, Ma.. Instead of wrting some big long narrative we will present you with subjects and Nicol's comments on them... Enjoy there is some good stuff here... We'll start with the Designated Player issue...
Nicol on DP's:
"We actually had a deal done with a player who's in Turkey, we thought we had it done on Monday. We were waiting on the paperwork coming through from the club who told us they were going to send the appropriate stuff and then we got a call to tell us that they changed their mind.... He was a center forward...
That other one you are talking about (referring to the crowds mentions of Fenerbache star Alex) we actually had an agreement with as well... he was still under contract and the club made him an offer he couldn't refuse...
But at present time we are actually talking to two other players as far as the DP's concerned, as you can see it's not quite straight forward and there's a lot of things that have to come together, but both of them are strikers, so hopefully we can get one of them done before the start of the season, we'd like to start the season with one."
Nicol on the Florida training camp:
"We got to see what the young guys are made of but this trip coming up is probably the most important trip as far as preparation is concerned. What we saw was good..."
Nicol on contract offers:
"Today we offered Kinne a contract, we offered Boggs a contract, we offered Tim Murray a contract, and Sousa..."
Nicol on our Nigerian signing:
"He's a young guy, bags of potential, scores goals... He likes to get forward..."
Bilello on a Stadium:
"There's a few sites we been working with, are progressing on a couple of them actually. A couple of new things that we're looking at, we're always looking at new things, but there's a couple that we're making some progress. I don't think there is anything concrete to say on this or that but there are some external things that are moving our process along on sites that we've been engaged in for probably a year if not a little more than a year on and some of their external things are starting to move now which is going to help... I think we are well positioned on those sites because we've been working with the cities, and working with the government officials, and working with the state knowing that some of these things might be unlocked. Hopefully those things move within the next 3-6 months and that allows us another opening to get our stuff moving again on those sites."
Nicol on where the goals are coming from:
"We really couldn't be working any harder on making any more calls or sending emails or looking at videos, I think we all can see that we want someone to score goals...
We want a guy who's coming here to play, who's gonna work hard, respect us and do the best...
Obviously they have to have ability, truth is there are not that many guys around who are just top goal scorers, the ones that are getting big money in Europe...
For me the biggest thing we need is another striker, I think we definitely have depth... but striker would be the one place I think we need somebody."
Nicol on Coria:
"Franco Coria we got to play center back and to be honest having seen him over the last 2 days this guy can play a lot more positions than center back... We want people who can defend but also pass out of the back and he can certainly do both of those... This guy can playe either fullback position easliy but we got him to play center back"
Nicol on Shalrie:
"We don't set out to look for a captain every year. We have a captain at the present time, Shalrie Joseph, obviously he hasn't covered himself in glory over the last ten days. For me the most important thing is how accepts what happened an how he moves on, and how he plays on the field, and how he is in training. As much as a lot of this has been a distraction over the last ten days I can assure this, when he's showed up for training he's been a beast as he normally is, when he gets on the field he's a beast when he trains he's a beast...
At the present time he's our captain and right at this minute he's still our captain."
Nicol on Dabo and Domi:
"They played at the highest level, they obviously have talent, they are obviously professional they have something that we really lacked last year which is experience, and so for us this year they are going to be huge, absolutely huge... you need some real class football players and those guys are that."
Thanks for the recap Brian. Happy to hear that they are actively pursuing multiple DP's and had one basically signed until the other club backed out.
ReplyDeleteYes, nice work.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for Netflix to deliver our DP.
More management placating to get the few fans they have left off their backs. This organization is a joke. I hope they move.
ReplyDeleteOne great thing about a Scotsman is that they are frank, truthful and never seem to be interested in couching their words. No BS. So refreshing to the way we do things in this country as far as beating around the bush. Thanks, Steve for just giving it to us straight.
ReplyDeleteNice one Bri.
ReplyDeleteIt's worth noting that Steve seemed to call the Nigerian winger "Michael." That should help a lot in figuring out who this guy is.
ReplyDeleteNice Brian, thanks for the updates
ReplyDeleteGreat recap, Brian and thanks to the Revs for providing it. Lots of good info in here.
ReplyDeleteDo you have any other information about the first "central forward" guy they had a deal with?
ReplyDeleteI am loving these comments. A bunch of haters making anonymous comments.
ReplyDeletegood post!
